While Popup Ad Smasher isn't difficult to use, it is a little less intuitive than other programs that we reviewed. Also, the program will block links in Microsoft Excel, mistakenly determining them to be popups.

Feature Set:  

One good feature in Popup Ad Smasher is "Offending Control." This allows you to list offending words or phrases that you want blocked from websites. This helps you protect your friends and family from viewing offensive material.

However, Popup Ad Smasher doesn't block animated ads and also doesn't prevent adware and spyware.

We experienced no difficulties when installing Popup Ad Smasher.

Popup Ad Smasher includes email and phone support.

Security:  

Not only can you protect your settings with a password, Popup Ad Smasher will also protect your homepage from being hijacked. You can clean your Internet activity with cookie control, ad control, address bar, history links and more.

The program doesn't include logging and statistics, however, and there is not whitelist or blacklist function.

Effectiveness:  

Popup Ad Smasher blocked 100 percent of the ads in our standard popup test. However, it didn't perform quite so well on our advanced popup test. Some of the types of popups it failed to block are click reload popups, exit popups, modeless popups, sticky popups and floating popups.

Overall, we feel Popup Ad Smasher has some great features for killing popups and protecting your Internet viewing. We really liked how you can block a website's offending content, the program's cleaning tools and the ability to password protect your settings.

However, if you're looking for a popup blocker program that performs a little better at blocking all types of popups and stops ads better, then we recommend our highest-ranked product.
